Hi,

This is my first post so bear with me :)

We recently were given an HP 4500N colour laser printer. Unfortunately, we didn't receive a proper parallel cable or instruction manual. I checked HP's website and their manual is..um...lacking to say the least.

BUT, this printer is network ready (ethernet port on the back). So i connected a cat5 to the printer and plugged the other end into our linksys router. Theoretically, I only need to find the IP address for that printer; add it to each computer under 'add new printer in winxp' and we'd be good to go.

Problem is: i can't seem to find the IP address through any of the display categories right on the printer. I can print an information sheet which has the IP address listed, but when I try to add it under winxp, the printer can't be found? I've added other printers without issue before (although, those printers were directly connected to a pc on the network rather than directly to the linksys).

So, i guess i'm looking for a better manual for this printer? Something that will guide me through the display categories?

Or, should i be using the linksys router manual to find which port the printer's connected to and then try to set the IP to static?

I hope this all makes sense.

Cheers,
Keeb

Chances are that printer already has a static IP, and that IP is outside the range of your subnet mask. The IP can be changed from the front panel of that printer, under "EIO1 Menu".
