I am still new to this only having added one extension, not well in my life.

I need to add an extension to a switch remotely, and I don't think it's possible given the numbering plan.

Furthermore, as a rule, once I add the station, is it better to copy a known working station or modify the station's restrictions, allow list, and features?

Not possible. You would either need to know the slot/port number or the logical ID, with out the phone plugged in, it's darn near impossible.

Perhaps someone w/more experience could confirm.

If someone plugs a phone in and it powers up, you can renumber that ext(lets say 7125) to something that matches your ext range. AS LONG as the system is in "set up space".

AS far as copying, do whatever is more comfortable for you. If they dont know what they need, maybe just copy a working extension to be "similar".

If someone on site knows how to count ports, then you may be able to pull this off.

When I'm confronted with an unknown switch, I print 2 things, the DIAL PLAN and the SYSTEM SETUP.

I then create a spread sheet with the part of the DIAL PLAN that shows the EXTENSIONS as LOGICAL ID 1, 2, 3, etc and cross reference the SLOT/PORT and MODULE TYPE so that I know what's where.

Depending on the Release of the System, there is one part of the DIAL PLAN that does that for you, but most of the ones I work on do not have that feature.

If you can find that, or create it, then you are way ahead.

BUT, only if someone on site can help.

That's what I thought. The switch is in setup space.

Merlinman, that's a great idea I'll have to try that.

My boss suggested taking the MLX16 from the phone room leaving only the MLX20 for admin. I am reluctant as it has been beneficial to have that 2nd phone next to the switch.

ArmyGuy...your correct, nothing worse then someone calling in for support and they are not prepared to test. every phone room needs at least 2 or more phones in it
