adding an exhcange 2003 server in a 2000 environment

I would like to build a new exhange 2003 server for my 2000 domain. I would like this server to coexist temporarily until i can move all the mailboxes off the exchange 2000 server. I was thinking after the exchange server is in place that I would then begin to upgrade the GC and the DCs to 2003. Does anyone have a best practices guide or experience with this. Is it as simple as running the exchange setup with /forestprep and /domainprep switches? Thanks in advance for any help.
