I have a merlin legend release 3.0 and I am trying to add a wheelock 30-60v horn so when there's an incoming call from the first trunk line it will ring. I'm assuming this will work because the power supply sayd ring voltage 48v. Anyone have any idea on how to do this? I tried plugging the bell into the incoming line before the system and calling it, but it didn't work. Then I tried hooking it to an extesion and calling that extension, but still no answer.

Standard ringing voltage is 90 to 105VAC @ 20-25Hz. You need an analogue station port and the correct Wheelock option for same. If you are connecting to the CO line, the same would apply. What is the part number of the Wheelock unit?

The wheelock number is 61213, then KS-23053-L2. it says 38-60v and the power supply for the legend says ringer voltage 48v.

In order to use that horn alert device, you need to have an MFM module installed in an MLX set, and the MFM would be optioned for SSA to send the pulsed -48V to the device. For more info check the Legend Installation document for supplemental alert devices. Avaya used several alert devices that run on pulsed DC, but they use special arrangements in order for them to work.

yeah i dont see to much in the documentation. i may be looking for the wrong stuff. However, i have the MFM installed on just about all of our phones. Also, I was digging through the box of stuff and found an SSA. I believe now i have everything, but not too sure on how to hook it all up. I tried plugging it into the adjunt port on the MLX-10 on extension 16 but i dont get anything out of it. I was looking through winSPM to try and find something on the adjunts settings but i was unable to find anything. Any ideas?

I'm assuming the mfm is the adjunct port on the back of the mlx. Just about all our phones have that already installed. I have no clue how to set that port or anything. The adapter i have is the AT&T Merlin General Purpose Adapter. It has a special cable that only plugs into the adjunct port on the bottom of the mlx phones. When i hook it up i loose alot of the features on the phone. Is there any chance of gettng the bell to work or should i just scrap the idea. It seems like its just causing a bigger head ache.

I looked at your website but really didnt find any information on adding an external ringer. Right now we have a Merlin Legend System Release 3.0. Thees 2 008 MLX boards, 2 408 GS/LS-MLX boards, and a 012 Board. I have MLS phones but when i connected them to the system i didnt get anything out of them. Most of the phones have the MFM on them. I dont know if i missed the info on ur page but i wasnt able to locate it.

Each MLX station has an "adjunct" extension assiciated with it. If you go into Winspm, to maintenance, port, station, then enter the station you are working with (I believe you stated x16 before). Press status, then next. The extension it shows now should be the "adjunct" for that extension. Plug the ringer back into the MFM port, try calling the new adjunct extension and see if it rings.

Have you bothered to read the Installation document? This stuff is covered in it, as mentioned in my post above.

Thanks SYQUEST...i just got done reading the installation documents. I am assuming the phones i have do not have an MFM in them. However, I am not positive. Some of our phones have a second jack on them that says adjunct so i assumed that was an MFM. When i took one apart, it looked nothing like the pictures in the installation guide. Is there any way to use this adjunct port or do i still have to by and MFM? I am either thinking one of the phones has one or the bell was hooked up differently since it came with the system. Instead of taking every phone apart to see if it has an MFM in it, is there any other way of telling?

those adjunct jack were meant for the Merlin passageway software

The easiest way to tell if the MFM is present is pickup the set, turn it over and look for the MFM Jack Guard Cover. If it is not there and there is a modular jack present, it has an MFM installed. You can see this through the desk stand bottom. This is shown in the installation document.

The only other way to use the Wheelock horn is with a control relay designed for line ringing voltage. I don't have the KS part number for those, since they have been manufacture discontinued back in the early 1990s. Unfortunately I don't have an old Wheelock catalogue from that era either. Someone else may have further info, that is all I have.

Thank You everyone for all of your help. I have determined that none of our phones have mfms installed on them, only adjuncts. I think the best thing for me would be to purchase a MFM. Sucks that that is the only way to hook it up.

Just out of curiosity, theres no way to connect it directly to an 012 Board with Ring Generator?

Not that particular bell, but if you're not married to it, just get a 90VAC loud ringer and YES, hook it to the 012 w/Ring Gen. board
