Is it possible to connect a server with two network cards to a single switch to increase bandwidth to that server?

The concept is called Multi Link Trunking by Nortel, other vendors will have different names, while there is a group working on it, there is no standard yet, just proprietary solutions.

using sun servers, i use one solution if al the MAC addresses are the same, and another if the MAC addresses are different. PC solutions exist, too. I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

3COM and Intel both have solutions for this to, it's probably better to get both the NICs and Switch from the same manufacturer because as the guy above said there are no real standards yet although some manufacturers kit works with others in this sort of set up.

We use Intel adapter teaming on many of our servers but we do it for fault tolerance rather than to maximise bandwidth and as such don't have the connections on the same switch.

We've done this before as well. We've used intel NICs and Cisco switches. As long as the NICs and the switch have the capability to Channel (as Cisco calls it), you should be fine.
