Hi,

I have a server that has 3 NICs installed, i have installed a NMS tool that discovers the network.

Currently the traffic is going out of one interface which has a gateway configured and i am unable to discover my devices because this nic ip is not in the access list (adding this nic ip to the access list is not an option) the traffic needs to go out of the other NIC .. it hasn't got a gateway configured ... if i remove the gateway from NIC A and add it to NIC B then the traffic goes out the correct nic and i can discover my devices, but i don't think this is best practice as when i add the gateway IP to NIC B although it resolves my issue NIC b is not on the same subnet as the gateway.

How do i go about adding a static route .. and is this best practice or should i use another method ?

Thanks.

Can provide an exampe of what you are trying to achieve including example IP addresses and masks?

this is the standard setup - as it is the traffic goes out the servers team NIC - if i delete the gateway from the servers team nic and add it to the management lan NIc then the traffic goes out the right i/f.

but can i leave the gateway where it is now and add a static route that sends the traffic down the management lan without doing this ?

route add x.x.x.x mask y.y.y.y 10.24.8.162

Would normally solve the problem where x.x.x.x and y.y.y.y specify the destination you are trying to get to.

Re-reading the first post, is this management software scan the only thing that is the problem (i.e. not picking up the other subnets from the other nics)?

If this is the case, then it might simply be a case of some config within that particular software to limit it to a particular subnet.

so ...

route add 10.24.0.0 mask 255.255.0.0 10.24.8.162

will send all traffic down 10.24.8.162 ?

That will send any and all traffic you send to 10.24.0.0/16 through that interface. All other traffic would head to the default gateway specified above.

If that's what you need then that's what you want.

add a /p to the end of the route add command to make it permanent or it will disappear if you reboot the server.

I'd check that it's all working as expected before adding persistance. That way if everything gets screwed up a reboot gets you back to square 1.

Then when happy add /p :). Don't forget though, I've done that before causing some moments panic when we rebooted ;).

sorry for bothering you again but why would it only discover 10.24.0.0/16 and not everything in 10.24.x.x ?

thanks.
