I tried searching the archives for "Printer" before posting this. So, if I have overlooked the answer, I apologize :(

I am running SBS2000 and have an HP LaserJet already hooked up to the single parallel port. I would like to connect a second color printer, but am not sure the best way to do this. In the past [ten years ago] I would have just installed a second parallel port card and connected the second printer to it, designating it as LPT2. Is this still the preferred method?

I don't print color too often so I don't think I want to be buying a JetDirect card, however I don't want to be scrambling behind the computer and swapping parallel cables either.

I'm hoping that a second parallel card will do the trick.

A second parallel card will work fine as LPT2, but you may not even need it. Many printers nowadays are USB & parallel; a surprising number don't even have parallel connectivity - USB only. Decide on the printer first, then check if it can be connected via USB.

Already have the color printer [HP 2500L color laser]. Works great. Only problem is that I have it hooked up to a SECOND computer, just to print. I know, very lame way to do it. It's getting close to summer and the heat from the extra 300W power supply gets hard to tolerate :(

Guess I'll try the 2nd parallel card. Probably can get one for around $10, maybe even less on eBay.

Thanks for the confirmation...I just haven't used a 2nd parallel port in years [since the days of IMB XTs, operating at the blinding speed of 10MHz, CGA graphics, 20mb hard disks and $500 2mb RAM disks]....
