I need to add a second PCI SCSI controller (DPT SmartCache III) to an existing SCO 5.0.6 system. It already has a configured Adaptec 160 installed (which also hosts the boot HDD). The reason I need the second controller is that there is an old tape drive (Viper 1/4") that we need attached to the system and of course it can't be attached to the new AD160 controller. I couldn't find anything on adding a second controller, so I just tried mkdev tape hoping that would do it, but the controller doesn't appear on the boot screen. This whole thing is complicated by having the machine at a remote site (I can only talk someone through the steps - ugh). Any help appreciated.

Does the controller sign on at boot time?
does it sense the tape device?
If it does then just do a mkdev scsi
and add the tape drive on the "dptr" host adapter.

have fun
