ADDING A PRINTER TO AN AIX BOX

Can any one explian me adding a network printer to an AIX box running on 4.3.

Load the printers.??? fileset, where ??? is the version that matches the printer model. If it is a Jet-Direct printer or compatible, load the printers.hpJetDirect.attach fileset.

Then, using DNS or /etc/hosts, give the printer an IP Address and name.

Finally, go to "smitty print", select "add a print queue".

Follow the prompts from there.

Some of the network printers use print servers....if you have a particular print server
which is not a hpjetdirect but someother let us know...some have different instructions for getting them working.

When I add a print queue in the smit printer menu,
I am prompted with HOSTNAME OF THE JET DIRECT CARD.

Is this the printer name or the print server name they are talking about.

Print server if your JetDirect card is in that, otherwise the printer if it has the card in it. Could be either one afaik.
