What is the proper setup up for installing a headset with a lifter ion a 18D telephone set? I have tried to install it and have it working but I seem to have missed something.

Unplug coily cord from phone, plug in headset, plug coily cord into headset base, install lifter under handset, check settings of switches and dials on headset base.
