Hi,
The network administrator where I work was let go and I was
put in his place and I have only limited knowledge of Novell and was wondering if anyone here might be able to help me out.
We are running out of space on our Netware 5.1 server.
We have two new 80G hard drives to install but I'm not too sure on the procedure of how to install them.
I think it's save to assume that it's not like installing a HD in windows.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please can you post more details about your server eg current configuration, make and model maybe, IDE or SCSI etc...

I honestly don't know the current configuration at the moment.
I'm pretty sure that there is a 20G hard drive in it now, and there is less than 2G of available space left now.
We have somewhere in the area of 30 workstations hooked up to the server, in a multiple star type set up, meaning that there are, I want to say, 12 connections going to various hubs and then anywhere from 2-5 workstations on each hub.
I do believe it is IDE though.
What are you asking for as far as configuration? I will find out.

Ok, regardless of your configuration... Follow this rule of thumb.

- When you put the new drives in, do NOT under any circumstances expand the existing volumes onto the new drives. This can come back to bite you if one of your drives fail. Instead, create a new volume on the new drives.

- Since you don't have experience with NetWare, you'd be smart to have somebody do this for you. I'd hate to see you make the wrong move and wipe out your server. It's not as simple as just plugging it in. Spend some dollars up front, save in the long run.

Assuming you get the drive installed correctly (again, has nothing to do with netware), and you have the controller drivers loaded correctly, the new devices should be available to netware. You then run NWCONFIG at the server. There is an option in there for setting up a new partition and volumes. you should be able to identify the device and setup the partitions accordingly. Not a difficult process, but could be frustrating if you're not familiar with it.
