Adding a new hard drive only for storage space?

I have a Pentium 3 motherboard with a Intel Celeron processor. I am still under warranty so I can't open it up yet, but when I do I want to know how to deal with loading the new additional 20GB hard drive. I already know how to technically place it in the computer, but I have no idea about how to load it through BIOS or the OS or whatever happens after that. I am running Windows XP Home edition.

I know it seems silly that I can't open it up yet, but I am going to keep all of the help I get from this forum and store it until I can use it in three months when the warranty ends.

Thank you.

A good advice is to get a external usb 2.0 drive.
That way you can backup your computer to an external storage.
That would not void your warranty either.
Just get one big enough to hold complete backups
and the additional storage space you need.
And you can take it with you to friends or whatever
to move data also.

Btw if you only have USB 1.1 port i wouldn't recommend it
(to slow)

So if I have Windows XP Home, then how do I check my USB ports for their version?

By the way, I cannot even take the lid off the computer, since there is a sticker there preventing me from doing that.

Thanks
