There is nothing really special. Just the normal precautions before any hardware change, i.e. backup the system. If it is a RAID array you are adding a drive to, the installation is more complex. If you are just adding another drive that will not be a part of a volume set or an array of any type, all you have to do is physically install it (with correct jumpers ;-) then from the disk administrator, partition and format it.
