Hi Guys,

I have a 73GB Maxtor Atlas IV Ultra 320 SCSI hot pluggable hard drive complete with carriage for Dell 1600sc I insert the drive into the 6th hot plug slot (first five have raid drives of 9 GB). The drive lights illuminate so it is connected to the bus however the drive is not recognised by the Server even after scanning the system. My first thought was conflicting SCSI but it has automatic SCSI mode configuration. any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Last time I added another disk in a hot-pluggable 4600 I still had to reboot before I could use it. I was fortunate in that I could have some downtime on the system so I never bothered raising it as an issue with Dell.

If you can arrange some downtime it's probably worth rebotting it just to see if it's then recognised - if not it might be a faulty drive etc.

Dell will probably tell you that you need to "initiallize the drive", which means reboot-bios-initialize.
So much for hot swap!
We've had to do this with disk replacements as well.
