We have a Compaq Proliant ML530 Server with a Compaq Smart Array 4200 Controller. Our OS is Novell Netware 5.1 running SP2A. We have one Sys Volume that we want to add space to we have another 18.2 gig drive that we would like to add, because our free space is down to 1.8gig. My question is when we install the drive what would be our steps to add that 18.2gig of space to our sys volume? Can I just put it in and run a Netware utility to add it or do I have to go into the array? Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Bobby

As a start, what on earth do you have on SYS that would use so much space? Remember, the SYS volume should be for the NetWare system files and any other stuff should really be stored on another volume.

Anyway, to answer your question: once you have put the new hard disk into the server, you can use CPQONLIN.NLM to add the new hard disk to the existing array (this is based on RAID5 configuration only). Once the hard disk is added to the new array, go into NWCONFIG (going from memory now) / Disk Options / NetWare Partitions and add the new logical volume as a NetWare partition. Once this is done, you can add the diskspace to the SYS volume under the Volumes section by pressing Insert, choosing the unallocated space and selecting Add to existing volume. This can all be done without any outage time to the server, but be aware that CPQONLIN does have a tendancy to crash the server on the odd occasion.

Sorry if the instructions are rather vague, I'm going from memory.... -----------------------------------------------------

I know all about having sys as a seperate volume but I wasn't here at the time the OS was installed, I questioned that also when I was hired, oh well. Anyway thank you for your response I will let you know how we make out.
