Adding a foreign switch - will it break my stack? 1

Good morning, all!

We are adding an HP ProCurve 2824 (J4903A) switch to our rack to handle iSCSI chores. We need to attach it to the Summit stack in place to manage the iSCSI servers and to provide a channel for asynchronous replication for disaster recovery.

In the usual world, simply patching from one open port on the Summit stack to another on the HP would be fine. I do want (need?) to know if this would break the Summit stack.

Thanks!

Gregg

I don't see a way that it could break the stack, it's just an uplink to another switch. If there are multiple VLANs then just be sure that your trunk ports are set up the same (VLAN tagging, etc.)

If you want to be safe, turn on Spanning Tree and look for blocked ports. If you don't have any then you can turn STP back off.
