Adding a feature

On a 7208, where the bottom button is usually Handsfree/Mute followed by,,upwards that is, 2 intercom buttons, which have the set number on them....I am attempting to add a feature to the first intercom button..I hit feature *3, when it says hit a button,,I press the top intercom button that I want to add the feature to, bit it goes right to dial tone. Can I add a feature onto 1 of the 2 intercom buttons?? On a side note, why are there 2 intercom buttons??

Feature can only be assigned to unassigned keys.
You can not assign them to the Intercom keys, but you could remove the handsfree key.
