I am trying to add a fax line to our current Partner ACS 4.0 system, for some reason when the system was set up they didn't run the fax line through the system and just ran it straight through to the machine, we have had a surge of fax calls coming to our voice lines and I want to add the fax machine as an extension and the fax line to the system so that faxes coming in on our voice lines will go to the fax machine. I am using the remote PC admin. software to configure it and have set up the fax extension and added it to hunt group 8 along with adding our fax line to that group. The question is: Is it possiable to enable auto fax detection on the voice lines and still hove them covered by our partner voice messaging system? I can't figure out how to do this since they are in different hunt groups.
Thank you for any help.

Hi chessley,
This is really simple to do. Add the fax to COx. Assign COx to the extension for the fax machine, immediate ring, turn off distinctive ringing. Assign the extension the fax is on as a fax extension on the system. Any call on a 308 expansion card or ACS proc. with fax cng detection will automatically route to the fax extension when answered by the attendant.
Hunt group 8 is used for a fax pool (multiple fax machines). Not used in your application.
Note: If you put the fax line on one of the first two ports on a 308 card, and the fax on the corresponding extension on that card, in a power fail, the line will drop onto the fax machine. So, if the system goes down, the fax still works.

You only need to have the Fax extension in Hunt Group 8 and have the lines answered by the Auto Attendant to have automatic Fax detection. The ACS will detect the CNG tone and send the call to Hunt Group 8, which contains only the Fax extension.

Partner Messaging R1 and R6 also have the capability of FAX detection, where you specify a Fax extension for each auto attendant, and Messaging will do the CNG detection. In this senario, you must NOT put the Fax extension into Hunt Group 8, but rather let the Messaging the the work.

Putting the Fax into Hunt Group 8 AND setting a Fax Extension in Partner Messaging gives false transferes to the Fax extension.

Hi TTT,
I guess we each have our ways of doing this. Whatever you are the most comfortable with.

Hi Chris - We must have been replying at the same time, as I didn't even see your post while I was composing. Yes, there is usually more than one way of doing things, and your suggestion of using a Power Failure line and extension combination is a great one!

(When using Partner's in Hotel/Motels, I usually go to extreme pains to keep CO lines off of room phone PFT ports, which is a lot harder now with the ACS and 308 cards!)

Keep in mind if the power is out the fax machine won't work unless it has a battery backup!

Nope, so you can call your interconnect & tell them you system smoked, or the power co, or employees, customers etc. Seriously, it's just a convenient phone. I guess some of us would like to whistle to a fax machine. :)
