How do i make it so that the switch sees that a phone has an expansion module to add more feature buttons to it. I plugged in the cord that attaches from the expansion unit to the telephone but when I go to the switch It doesnt see it. Is there an item that I have to tell it that it has an expansion unit on that phone. I tried adding 1 to AOM but still nothing. Any help is appreciated.

Hi
I found this old post it should help

I've connected a 22 button AOM to a M2616 with the cooresponding NT2K03BA ribbon cable. I've changed AOM from 0 to 1 in load 11 and am able to see the addition buttons and program on them. I've gone through and programmed all the button with SCN appearances and it still won't respond, though it looks fine in software. Am I missing something in programming? Possibly a CLS or some other enablement????

I beleive the AOM requires auxillary power to function.
I have a couple older ones and they need it.

How would I get AUX power to the unit? It is connected to the 2616 with a ribbon cable and the only other port on the AOM is to daisy chain a seconf unit via another ribbon cable. I wonder if the unit you have is totally different?

Mine use an external plug in transformer that has a jack on the end which plugs into the phone jack and then the phone cord plugs into that. If you need i can go through old paper work and get a P/N for you.

Got it figured out and, you were partially correct. I spoke with my NOC in Atlanta. Newer M2616's don't need the external power for the AOMs. Older ones require the exact adapter that you have described here. You can identify the older models from the newer models by using this simple technique. Flip the 2616 over and look at the area of connection for the handset and the line cord. If the two plugs are facing opposite directions, it is an older phone thus requiring external power. If the two jacks are both mounted in the same direction, you have a newer model phone and the AOM will "not" require external power. Thank you very much for your help. Sounds like we both learned something here! Take care.

Hello,
I removed the AOM key to 0 then added a 1 to it again and now im able to see the expansion in the pbx switch. Now the problem is when I assign the keys in the button it shows up but it wont get a dial tone or do anything.
I went
keys 17 scr 12888
keys 18 scr 22888

and when I try to call it it does nothing. I dont even get a dial tone which you should get a dial tone when you press the button. Strange, I see and can program the expansion unit but it just seems as if it wont turn on. Anyone got any idea as to why?
