I have one more question for the aloha/edc wizzards out here.

I have Aloha 6.4 at my nightclub. We have 9 terminals inside the club. A few times a year we hold block parties for big holidays. St. Patricks Day, Fiesta, Halloween, etc. On those events, we use extra POS that is real basic for temporary bars outside. We just take the totals for what was sold and transfer it to an Aloha terminal after the event so that all sales are recorded in the Aloha. Works ok for us, I guess.

What I would like to do is be able to "push" transactions to EDC to authorize credit cards in real time. I am sure there is a way to write a file to the BOH terminal with the information that EDC will process and then be able to read the completed transaction file back to the block party with the results. or even to set up a virtual cc terminal on a pc on the network in the temporary bar to allow the authorization?

Anyone have any brilliant ideas?

While this could easily be done writing a req file, it would not be secure. The cc number would be exposed. Your best bet would be to get a seperate cc machine from yoour processor or bank. It's not worth risking your business and you would have to purchase another computer or terminal to rub such a Program.

You could write a simple progr to create a .req file. You can look at a typical txn after doing a authorization on the Edc program on the Boh. Your program would capture the cc number and write it to a txt.req file drop it into the Edc path and it will get authorized. All of this would be very non
Pci compliant because all the txn's would not be encrypted. Justy 2 cents.

gotcha on the non PCI. I know that I can authorize cards on the boh server. Can I run the edc program (or another program) on another machine on the network and have edcsvr run the authorization

How about using VNC or some other remote connection software.

It would be possible to run a second EDC program, copy th edc.ini file and change the batch number to at least 300 less or more then the current batch number.
