Add someone to a group

How do I add someones name to a group?

I am the owner (smith) of a directory called directoryA and want to add someone to the group name so they can write into the directory.

drwxrwsr-x 14 smith  directoryA     5120 Dec  8  2005 .

man useradd particularly the -g or -G options.

Or usermod if the user already exists, or simply vi /etc/group.
