Add Row numbers to a group 1

Good day
how do i add bullets on a report table rows with group by.
something like row numbers in a group and subgroup.

1. row
1.1 subrow
1.2 subrow2

row is a group and subrow is a group as well under row.

Don't know if there is a better way in later verions as I am sill on 2000 but I have done this by creating a custom data member that uses the INSCOPE function to determine whether a row is a master or a child and the RUNNINGCOUNT function to determine how many children are in the group
