In the beginning..the A/R control panel worked fine in XP Pro - it listed all my installed programs. Then one day when I opened it, it only listed a couple of recently installed programs. How can I refresh it to show everything installed? Or how do I switch to administrator mode to see if the list is complete there?

Thanks, Falling Rock

I use Microsoft's TweakUI for XP to select or disable what entries should appear in Control Panel.

Xteq's free tweak utility will also allow you to add/change the control panel entries.

I am sure there is a registry entry for this, but I strongly recommend either of these two tools instead.

how long ago did this happen? system restore may bring them back but may you may to reinstall the later programs

Open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories)

Click File, open. Navigate to the Windows folder or the WINNT folder if you upgraded from Win 2k or NT. Then open the INF folder. Open up the SYSOC.INF file.

Delete the HIDE towards the end of the line. Do not delete the commas. Don't put any spaces in-between the commas.

Example: A Hidden Application entry in Add/Remove Programs:

Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,HIDE,7

To explose it to Add/Remove, edit the line in SYSOC.INF to read:

Pinball=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,pinball.inf,,7

BuckeyComputer, often the application hides because it is placed in a hidden "Group" during installation; see the following SYSOC.INF entries for example:

Games=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,games.inf,,7 <-- Visible
AccessUtil=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,accessor.inf,,7 <-- Visible
CommApps=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,communic.inf,HIDE,7 <-- Hidden
MultiM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,multimed.inf,HIDE,7
AccessOpt=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,optional.inf,HIDE,7

This might lead you somewhere.

To logon to your Administrator Account Press the CTRL+ALT+DELETE key combination twice during the friendly logon interface to use the conventional Windows 2000 logon interface. Or restart the computer in Safe mode and logon as the Adminstrator there.

Thanks BCASTNER. I have TweakUI for XP but can't seem to locate the alternate add/remove control panel. The Control Panel entry allows turning on/off extensions, not add/remove apps.

My alternate question was how to log in as the administrator with the hopes that then the A/R Control Panel will show all the installed apps.

XP seems to have a mind of its own, judging my this little faux pa as well as the way it arbitrarily remembers, forgets, or quesses at window views to display.

To logon as administrator try Ctrl-Alt-Delete twice. On the home edition it may not give you the Administrator option and so you will have to do it in safe mode.

You are right about TweakUI, my apologies. But the SYSOC edit should work.

Best.
