hey i've had this happen (memory) with a default partition configuration. the host is a 570 with aix 5.3...

i thought a default partition would pick up any new hardware additions.

any ideas?

I just added memory and added cpu's via HMC . For it recognize it I had to "shutdown -F " put it in the HALT COMPLETE state then brougt it backup. The system pickup the changes on HMC and the system when issued the "prtconf " command it all appeared ... Hope that helps ...

Thanks june54...

but how did you place the partition into a halt? i do not see that option in the hmc GUI. if i shutdown the host OS the only choice i see is to power it back on. sorry, but i am new to using a hmc to manage a box.

Hi Breslau

Expand "partition" to show your lpared system .Right click the system you made made the changes to.. from the drop down window select OPEN TERMINAL WINDOW this should give you a login to that lpar .... login in to the lpar system su to root and issue the "shutdown -F " command . Your system will come to a halt ... Once its down . Return to the hostname and again right click it should allow you to activate the partition .. This will bring the system backup ....

Ok, that was the trick then. i had booted and halted the system before through a remote login to the OS but had no luck. we're using a default partition on this host and i was assuming it would be enough to get the memory picked up since we haven't lpar'ed it. the IBM documentation i read doesn't state you need to bring it up via the HMC when in a default config.

anyway, the shutdown part wasn't the important piece in our situation. it was starting it through the HMC. actually i initially put it in standby mode, but i don't think that really mattered.

thanks for the replies!
