I need to add one button to about 500 phones. I tried to do it using a template by copying a sample ext. I imported a .csv file with the ext i want to change but I am getting a failed result because the sample ext i copied from has a set port number and it is conflicting with all the other ones. Is there an easier way of doing this without having to change all the stations individually?

Thanks!!

Do all of the telephones have the same button layout?

This is how I have done it in the past. This way can be kind of a pain, and you have to be making an exact clone for every station you apply this to.

You can only make global button changes to the same set type. If you need to make changes on more than one phone type, you will need a seperate template for each.

IMPORTANT! Before making a global change to 500 stations, try it on a couple. You dont want to mess up, and have to try to fix 500 stations if you dont get the desired results the first time. Trust me....been there.

1. Start by creating a new template undter the TASK tab of ASA. Give the template a description you can identify it by. Select STATION as an object. Select CREATE BLANK TEMPLATE then click OK.
2. The template you just created can be found under the tree tab listed under the voice system name that you connected to.
3. Find the template and double-click on it to open.
4. select the FIELDS tab at the top of the template properties window, then in the VALUES field to the right of type, select the PHONE TYPE you wish to make the changes to.
5. Proceed back to the General tab and click on the BUTTONS button.
6. A graphical display of the set type you selected will appear. Here you will make changes to the buttons. NOTE: the buttons that you chane on this template will affect all stations that you select in the next few steps. Be mindful of the changes you make, and make sure that every button has the correct feature. (IMPORTANT! If you are only adding 1 button, you still need to fill in all of the other button features currently programmed and leave no blanks. Something I read once said otherwise, but the system will remove programming currently in place if a button is left blank during this step)
7. Select OK on the Button Administration window and select OK on the template properties window.
8. Proceed back to the task bar and select Advanced - Find and Replace. On the Type window, select STATION as an object and CHANGE as the modifier, then click next. In the FILTER field, select EXTENSION and in the VALUE field, enter the RANGE OF EXTENSIONS you wish to change.
9. At the bottom of the screen in the template field, select the template you just created and click next. Name your task and schedule (or run now)
10. Once the task has completed (baring any conflicts) your changes will be made.

Thanks!! Will this affect any cor or any other settings under any other tabs?

I have never had it affect any other settings, but again...try it out on a couple of test stations or something before dumping it to all of your production phones. (That is a miserable lesson to learn the hard way) I have done it several times with these instructions, and it works, but sometimes it takes a couple of trys to get it exactly the way you want it setup.

Hey, I tried that but I am getting an error saying that the Auto Answer can't be administered. Ever got that before when trying to add a button? I just tried this on two phones and both came back with the same error.

Also getting a duplicate button error when I set the field of auto answer on the test station to none. Any ideas?

Havent seen that one, but auto answer is a field that you can administer with IMPORT DATA in ASA. You could try manipulating it that way and then doing the button change???

for the duplicate button, check to make sure that you dont have 2 of the same one programmed...even in softbuttons. Im thinking that once you "fixed" the auto answer issue, then it errored out because of a softbutton duplicate or something.

Don't I have to have all the buttons programmed in the template for what they already are? Or just the one I'm changing?

What I read (along time ago and cant seem to find it again) says that you just need to change the button you want to add, but My experience is that you need to have all the buttons programmed the way you want them or it will remove current programming. Im not sure, however, how the system handles softbuttons. It may very well keep current softbutton programming thus causing your duplicate button confilct. In the template, I would map all the buttons the way you want them to be on the final product.

Just bringing this topic back up because I use it successfully on 6408D+ stations, but (there's always a but) when I try to change the buttons on my 2410 template I get the following:

Button definition for set type '2410' does not exist.
Button administration is not available for this set type.

Anyone seen this before? Got any ideas?

Sean

Thought I would post the conflict I had with the above string in case anyone ever runs across it again.

When you create a template using digital Sets, the system automatically adds softbuttons to your button mapping in ASA. You need to delete the ones you don’t need. This could create a conflict with Auto Answer giving an error if you have it administered on the stations setting Auto Answer - acd, station, icom. Need to DELETE the int-aut-an button off the softkeys. This was my problem with the error I was getting.

I use scripting for this......

Telnet to the CM with secure CRT and past this

change station 7016
OVOVOVcall-apprsend-callscall-apprcall-fwdcall-apprauto-cbackcall-pkupOR

I make the script in exel and past it in secure CRT

If you understand the above it will help you with a lot of dirent changes
