Add new user / workstation 1

Hello

My accounting department uses ACCPAC 7.0 for DOS for a couple of things. The same two users have been using the system for years with no problem. We now have a third individual who needs access. I copied the shortcut used by the other users onto the new user's desktop but it doesn't work. Logged off the new user and logged on one of the old users onto the new workstation and it works fine.

It looks to me like ACCPAC picks up the NT user name of the logged on user. When the existing user (Brad) logs on ACCPAC opens fine and you can see that ACCPAC shows Workstation = Brad.

How can I set up the new user in ACCPAC to work like the existing users?

How is Accpac launched?
By calling Plus.exe or a batch file or what?
Open a DOS box and type SET and press enter. Do you see something like PlusUser=Brad etc?

It is opened with a shortcut:

P:\ZPLUS.BAT /v3 /so:\accpac /uo:\accpac /po:\accpac

When running the SET command, there is no PlusUser reference. The EXE is not on the local workstation, it is on the network.

What's in ZPLUS.BAT?
Where does O: map to?

Each user has an O: drive mapapped to a network share. It did not occur to me that the so po and uo referred to the users' O: drives. Settings must be stored in O:\accpac? I checked one of the existing users and these are the files in his O:\accpac:

PRNTLT.LD4
EZUSEROP.LD4

You got it, the /s /u /p switches point to o:\accpac and the user's settings are stored in those files.
I can't see the attached ZPLUS.BAT file, so I don't know what that does.
Typically I always used this command line to launch Accpac:
P:\PLUS.EXE /v3 /so:\accpac /uo:\accpac /po:\accpac

Some people renamed plus.exe to something else and then launched it from a bat file, I don't know why and can't think of any good reason why, other than making things more complex than it needs to be.

Once you have the new user up and running you can press F3 to get a menu, then find the users settings and change the user name.

So you think I should copy an existing user's o:accpac folder over to the new user's o: drive/, start accpac then make changes?

FYI - the bat file just had a bunch of if statements that all seemed to be about an add-on called ZippyNotes.

Oh good ole Zippy Notes.
You can copy the files - or not. New files will be created if you do not copy them.

The problem is when the new user starts accpac, it opens for a minute and then closes. No chance to do press F3 or anything to get set up.

I'll copy over the existing accpac setup files into the new users O:\ and see if that does the trick.

have you considered the user's right to write to the shared drive. the issue you descript points to the ability to create the EZ....ld4 files.

Yes the new user has write rights.

I copied the accpac settings folder from an existing user's O: drive to the new user's O: drive and it works fine now. We were able to change the settings to reflect the new user and her printer.

Make sure you turn off opportunistic locking.
