Hi all,

I'm new to this forum. I have a Linux server running Redhat 7.0 with 2 web site hosted on it. I'm having trouble adding new users to the e-mail side of the second site. When I log in as su and add them it "looks" ok but when I go outside and send e-mail as a test it comes back as undeliverable with this message error:

Sat, 28 Jul 2001 00:25:10 -0700 (PDT)
TCP active open: Failed connect() Error: Connection refused

Fri, 27 Jul 2001 22:25:10 -0700 (PDT)
TCP active open: Failed connect() Error: Connection refused

Any suggestions where to look? I'm sure this is a simple problem to solve I just don't have the expertise to do it on my own.
Thanks,
Matsprt

Hi,

If you are sending using sendmail from another Linux box via a dial-up to an ISP it could be that you've been hit by anti-relaying measures. Many/Most ISPs will not forward (relay) non-local mail . Using Sendmail asis your ISP may bounce mail straight back because it looks to them like you're trying to relay. If you configure you outbound email as your ISP's SMTP server then its fine but using sendmail un-configured may cause a problem.

See -->

This tells you how to re-configure sendmail to get round this particular problem.
