Add New Row in Layout using Pop-Up Menu

I have a layout that pulls in information from another db. In this layout I would like to add rows to the other table/db by allowing the user to select input from fields, which can be hard coded if needed. I would also like a value to be automatically placed in one of the fields to be entered. Does anyone know a good way to do this, and/or have a similar example they can share?

First, which version of FileMaker are you using?
Second, I don't really understand what you mean in your third sentence. Can you give an example?
