Hello. I'm using Filemaker 6 on Win XP and I'm prety new to FM (I'm a Fox /Access / VB programmer)

Now, I have 2 files : Customer and Invoice.

The two files are related by CustNo (Customer Number).

I want to know if it's possible to input one Invoice from the Customer Screen. I've created on Customer screen, add relations (with invoice) and one portal.

Sorry, I have no clue how to do it.

Thanks in advance.

if I read your correctly....here is quick sample:
ur doing it right, all you have to do is place the fields in the 1st row of the portal
in layoutmode field would be relfected as "related" in manner of:
________________customer.fp5 portal_____________^
[::Invoice_NO] [:: ItemID]
________________________________________________
________________________________________________
________________________________________________v

Make sure your relationship allows for "creation of related records"
Don't give up! ;-)
Comming from SQL based DBMS FileMaker feels litle "raw" but ones u get the hang of it u will start to like it more.
All the best!

I have used a solution similar to this in FMP 5.5 but
can't get it to work in FMP 7. Whenever I attemp to add a
record using the portal the following error message
pop up: "This action cannot be performed because this
field is not modifiable." All settings seem to be correct.
My database has 3 tables: Budget, Income, and Expense.
I can add records from the Income layout and from the
expense layout but not from the Budget layout which
has portals that show records from Income and Expense.
This is my first effort at using FMP7 after using earlier
versions with no problems. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Jware
