ADD COLUMN AUTONUMBER

This works:

ALTER TABLE tablename ADD COLUMN columname BYTE

But I can't get this to work:

ALTER TABLE tablename ADD COLUMN columname AUTONUMBER

Does anyone know why?

I believe you use COUNTER instead of AUTONUMBER as your word, a holdover from Access 2.0.

ALTER TABLE tablename ADD COLUMN columname COUNTER
