i'm trying to add an active x component to the builder, to be able to use it on a form.

the help files in C++Builder aren't a help.

do i need to create a project? a package?

HELLLPPPPP!!!

can anyone help?

I'm thinking you need to create a package but I can't remember. I'll have to look at my notes. Hang on. It will be later today since I'm at work.

I don't know if this article, "Making ActiveX controls persistent", is what you are looking for or not. It might be a good starting place, though.

C++Builder Developer's Journal has several articles on C++ Builder and ActiveX. Some of the older articles are freely available but most of the newer ones require a subscription. The subscription is well worth it, IMHO.

On this site you'll find a Flash: How to import a component:

Open an new package or a new project is not necessary.
Component/import component...

Follow the instructions

You will show a list of registered components.
If you don't find your component in the list, choose the add button and search the component you like to install.
