Hello:

We have been informed by a software vendor (Homepro) that we need to do the following to be able to use their software:

You can achieve the desired result (operate HomePRO in a Windows NT/2000 client/server environment) by doing the following:
1) Either purchase a new computer running Windows NT Server or Windows 2000 Server or reformat the drive on an existing computer and load Windows NT Server or Windows 2000 Server.
2) Uninstall all HomePRO components off the Novell server and off all client computers saving your database and your latest upgrade file.
3) Re-install the HomePRO network components on the Windows NT Server/Windows 2000 Server computer; copy the saved database and upgrade files back
into the correct folders on the Windows NT Server/Windows 2000 Server computer; set up a share on the appropriate ...\Proservices root folder holding the network components.
4) Run the client installation on the Windows NT Server/Windows 2000 Server computer.
At this point, you will have the Sybase database engine running on the same computer that is holding the database, a requirement for Sybase SQL Anywhere 7.
5) Map a drive on each client computer on which HomePRO will be running over to the shared folder on the Windows NT Server/Windows 2000 Server computer so that the database can be accessed.
6) Run the client installation on each client computer that will be running HomePRO.
In effect, you will be setting up a Windows NT Server/Windows 2000 Server computer which will function as a server only by running the HomePRO Sybase database engine. This computer will function within your current Novell network as simply another workstation (you will of course have to install the appropriate Novell protocols, etc. on this box so that it can access other files and programs on the Novell server). The Windows server should have a modem for the purpose of transmitting claims. If you have dedicated Internet access on your LAN (or even dial-up Internet access from that computer), you will be able to run the FTP upgrade procedure which will download and run HomePRO upgrades automatically, something that cannot be done with your current Novell environment. Upgrade times will be reduced since the database engine and database will be residing on the same computer.
You will need to consider how you wish to back up your database file, but this could be accomplished by setting up a batch file on the Windows NT/2000 box that zips and then copies the HomePRO database file to a folder on the Novell server which I assume has some type of tape backup.

Questions:
1. Has anybody done this successfully?
2. Can you provide any information on the necessary Novell protocols?
3. Will we need a special connection for dedicated internet access currently on our LAN or will this work once the appropriate Novell protocols are installed?
