I have a server that has a dual processor mother board, but only hase one installed. I am running Windows 2000 Server and would like to add a processor. If I add another processor that is an exact match to the original, will Windows 2000 know that a processor has been added? Will I need to reinstall? Hardware is a Compaq Proliant 1600 with a PIII 450.

1. shut down the server, then add the additional microprocessor.
2. power up the server, then right click the my computer icon from the desktop, select manage.
3. from the computer management window, select device manager, select computer.
4. click drivers tab then select update driver.
5. click display a list of known drivers for this device, & click show all driver on this device.
6. select the APIC mps type of hal. the click ok.
7. thats it.
