added a 2nd port other than 1433 using sql server configuration manager.

After restart sql server, I cannot connect to sql server using the new port. Connection through the default port 1433 works fine.

There is no firewall running. What am I missing?

Can you telnet to the new port number? What does SQL Server say in the ERRORLOG after you restart the service?

Also, try creating a new endpoint to listen on the new port number.

Thanks guys! I figured it out. Under the Configuration Manager, I added to port number to IP1 only. I need to add it to IPALL too. That took care of it.
