On an rs6000 6H1 I have three ethernet adapters (en0, en1, en2).
When I run lscfg on these, how to I translate the location to find which adapter in the back of the server it is?
Example: en2 shows in location 40-58
en1 shows in location 2A-08
Looking at the back of the server where the slots are not numbered as such, how do I know which adapter is en2?
Thanks,
Judy

The service guide that came with the system has the addresses of the slots. If you don't have the service guide, go to and you can download it. There are two places you'll want to look at: the drawer rear view drawings and the AIX and physical location codes.

It appears the NIC at 40-58 is the integrated NIC. 2A-08 is slot 8.

Hi,
1) The en device is just a logical device. The physical device is the ent device with the same number, for example the en1 corresponds to the ent1 device/adapter.

2) Run the lscfg:
lscfg -vl ent1
ent1 P2-I2 10/100 Mbps Ethernet PCI Adapter II (1410ff01)

10/100 Mbps Ethernet PCI Adapter II:
Part Number.................09P5023
FRU Number..................09P5023
EC Level....................H10971A
Manufacture ID..............YL1021
Network Address.............0002556A83F3
ROM Level.(alterable).......SCU001
Product Specific.(Z0).......A5204205
Device Specific.(YL)........P2-I2

The last line (Device Specific) shows the location P2-I2 or similar (my output is from an SP node). The I2 means the slot number 2.
Your lscfg output will show little bit different location, like:
U0.1-P1-I4/E1
|--First Ethernet Port on the Adapter
|-----PCI Slot I4 (fourth slot from left)
|--------I/O subsystem
|----------I/O drawer
