Hi:

I have a DSS appliance, 4-port ethernet NIC. i had to reinstall ALL the software, but when I try to reinstall the 4 virtual adapters, I can only intall two, if I try to install the 3rd and 4th, I get the following message:

" The adapter you selected is already installed on your system. Are you sure you want to continue ? "

If I choose "Yes", no other adapter is installed. But, of course, I need the four adapters.

Internet Explorer 5.5, and Service pack 6a were installed again, the same as DSS software.

Please help me !!

Hi Alex,

This is probably most likely to the fact that you didn't remove the "sniffer.ini" file, before re-installing the software, and/or by not removing the cards before un-installing. The sniffer.ini file contains the information about the virtual adapter(s) when you create Full Duplex monitoring, within the "Adaptec" icon within "Control Panel".

Do a complete un-install, remove "sniffer.ini" and "netxray.err", remove the "NA Inc", reg key, reboot then re-install. If this doesn't work, it's probably worth getting a "ghost" image from NAI support.

Hi Alf:

Thanks for your answer, can you tell me where those files are located ? if they are somewhere in the NAI directory, they were supposed to be erased ( I deleted the directory before the new installation ), and performed a Registry cleaning ( "sniffer" keys ). In order to perform a fresh-new installation, can you tell me which registry entries should I delete ?

You know, before the complete re-install of the appliance, the four interfaces were installed correctly, the problem began when I couldn't access the agent configuration using the Probviewer, it said that there were to many configuration sessions open ( and of course, none was established ).

Many thanks in advance.

Alex

Hi Alex,

Sorry I was talking absolute rubish about those 2 files, they're located on the console not the agent, and relate to console settings. Apologies for the mis-information.

It's probably easiest to re-ghost the unit, as even if you do install the cards, it will probably cause un-wanted event viewer errors.

Alf:

We found out that some of the PCI IRQ's from the BIOS were changed to "disable", we changed those IRQ into some values available.

I have experienced those BIOS changes when there have been a power outage, and it might have happened.

It happened sometimes with the very old LM2000, sometimes I couldn't set it up, and all we had to to was change the IRQ's. Did it happen to you ?

Best regards.

Alex.
