I am trying to install an Adaptec 2940 SCSI controller on a systems that already has Windows XP on it. When Windows XP loads, it gets as far as showing the desktop and the intro music begins to play, then the system hangs with the mouse cursor showing the hour glass. At this point the mouse cursor does not move, task manager will not come up. The system is completely frozen and must be reset or turned off to restart.

Has anyone seen this problem with XP? Any solutions?

Systems details:
SOYO Dragon Ultra MB (built in sound, nic)
AMD 1700 CPU
ATI 7500 Video
US Robotics 56K modem.
Windows XP Pro service pack 1.
Adaptec 2940 PCI SCSI Adapter, Int 13 off.

Thanks,
Roger

Try moving to another pci slot , problems
can be caused by irq sharing on the slots .

Changing the PCI slot solved the problem. Thanks for the help!

I tryed to install a Adaptec 2940 on a Windows XP system. The adpter was recognized fine but I do not have the appropiate driver. Adaptec is not providing a driver for XP. Were can I get it?

The Windows 2000 drivers available on the Adaptec site should work. Under XP.

Hi Roger,
Many thanks for your help. The Win2K driver is working fine.
