All of a sudden after installing drivers for the adaptec 29160 on a fresh Windows 98 se system the system hangs after reboot. When forcing a reboot the file system.dat is damaged. After scandisk is finished and Windows boots Windows can't access the registry and says to reboot. After the next boot Windows either hangs or a blue screen appears every time which i can't get out of. It always worked fine before. I'm stumped...
Configuration of my pc:
Asus a7v-266e
Amd Athon 1800xp
1x 256 MB pc2100
Asus v8170 pro (Geforce 4 mx 460)
Soundblaster 128 pci
Lucent winmodem
D-Link dfe-530tx and ofcourse the
Adaptec 29160 (with 18.2 GB Quantum Atlas 10k2, Plextor px-40tsi cdrom, Plextor 12/10/32s cd-rw attached)
There has not been a change to the system except for attaching a new cooler to the system cpu. It is remarkable however that the problem occured after attaching the new cooler. But i can't imagine what this has to do with it.
I've tried the following: Upgraded the Scsi card bios to the latest version, downloaded the newest driver, removing all other pci cards, putting the scsi card in another slot.
No change. I've started with putting the scsi adapter in a different pc; maybe the other expansioncards too.
Anyone got an idea what this could be?
