Due to time involved and complexity of issues, my boss
want's to know if there is an alternative to
implementation of Active Directoy in a Windows 2000 server
environment. Such as another directory access protocol.
He suggested LDAP, but that is a completely different
animal, still maybe something x.500 compatible.

The goal would be to use Win 2000 server and Exchange 2000
using all the bells and whistles, and of course implement
group polocies without actually implementing AD.

I don't think there is, my research agees with my result.
but I just wanted to get some validation/verification from
solme folks with a bit more experience.

To my knowledge there is no replacement for AD in 2000.

LDAP is the protocol used by AD.

Group policies are possible, but you'll have to configure them on every machine (gpedit command)

If it's not broken, don't fix it
