If you are talking about web access, as I understand it, you either can set up access or block access with AD authentication wiythout having a user log in. This, from what I've heard over at Watchguard's forums, shall be addressed possibly in release 9.2 so that various AD groups can be used for varieous levels if web access.
I did experiment with FB1000 and AD - certainly with V7 software it worked but as I didn't see any great benefit (it didn't improve granularity of control) I went back to controlling logons locally in the Firebox.
As stated it was used to allow bypass of the web filtering controls. It is also used for PPTP VPN's but I didn't try that with AD.
