Hello,

We are using AD to manage our desktops.

We have set up the work stations so users cannot install software on the workstations without admin privildges.

I am running in to one snag after installing our mail client Groupwise.

The install goes fine, but afterwards, when I try to open and MS office app, the windows installer pops up and looks to the Office pro MSI to install some files.

This fails. I get a message saying the install failed because I need admin autority to run the MSI for office.

Any ideas on a work around?

Thanks
J

It looks for DATA1.MSI and you need the exact version of your original office installation. I can't really tell you myself how to fix it, besides making DATA1.MSI available to your users and when that error comes up, point it to the file... even if in Read-Only.

This usually happens when you update your Office version. In Office 2000, if you update to service release 3 and you originally had Service Release 1a, then when you tried to modify antyhing (which groupwise will do to integrate with Office), then it will look for the CD's.

The only way I got around this is when I deployed my Office to all my employees (through software distribution in AD), I made sure that the version I installed was fully patched up to SR-3. To this day, it's never asked me for DATA1.MSI again...
