I use Wind. XP and installed the free Ad Aware software. When I run it, it automatically shuts down my system and gives an error stating: “ Shutdown inititiated by NT/AUTHORITY SYSTEM, windows must restart because DCOM Server Process…”

Any idea what this means and/or how to fix it?

Thanks!!

Does this only happen when running Adaware or in other circumstances? Do you have up to date AV and Firewall software?
It sounds more like blaster or sasser
I've run Adaware on many, many machines in various states and never had a problem with it.
The sasser link above has instructions for aborting the shutdown.

If neither of the above apply, try an online virus scan from a reputable supplier (Trend Micro, BitDefender, etc) and post back with more info.

I would look at Trend Micro's for this. They're extremely reputable and have added an antispyware feature to their online scans as well.

That is probably a virus doing that. There was one a year ago that caused that error message. Scan your machine with (AVG) or Trend Micro as aquias mentioned.

Hope that helps,

Erik
