We currently have a mixed NT/2000 network without AD. We will be adding an NT bdc, promoting it to pdc and upgrading it to 2000 with AD. We will then add Primary DNS & WINS services on it. We have 2 internal dns/wins servers already, one of which will disappear. Our internal domain is currently x. and is not registered. We have registered external y.com and y.net domains which are hosted by an ISP (Web & DNS servers are not ours). Our Exchange 5.5 server sends and receives mail for our y.com name. We have decided to name our new AD domain the y.com name. We will not have any external DNS servers but our internal DNS servers will have a y.com zone (with an x. delegation). Will there be a problem in allowing our ISP to continue hosting the y.com external DNS servers? All our internal users go through a proxy to get to the internet and do not use dns to resolve external names. What kind of problems will we run into?
Thanks!
