I've got to do a conversion of an AcuCobol .dat file to a simple sequential file format. The Acu file has assorted metadata burried amongst the records in the file. I'm looking for a definition of the Acu file format. Does anyone know where I can find info on this? This is a one time thing, so I don't want to spend money on a tool kit, nor do I have access to an Acu system.

Thanks,

Since it is not a straight text file, it is probably written using the Vision file system to support indexed files. There have been 4 versions of the Vision file system used by AcuCOBOL. AFAIK, the format is proprietary. The normal way to handle this would be to use the AcuCOBOL utility VUTIL32 to extract the data to a straight text file.

Sorry I can't provide better news :-(
