I want to track progress on a project by

1) actual work (hours)
2) actual finish

but the two are linked somehow. I want to track each independently.

For example, I spend 2 hours a day for four days on a task, and so I enter 8 hours as actual work. But then it tries to tell me that I've spent it all in one day. I want my GANTT to show that I spent 8 hours on the task and finished it 4 days after the start date.

Thanks.

Actual Work and Actual Finish are not linked in any manner. (Work and Finish are in some cases, but that's a different issue.)

It's not often that people want to show Actual Hours on the Gantt chart:

View | Gantt
Format | Bar styles...
Select the row marked "Task"
In the lower part, click on the Text tab and you can then choose to display Actual Work in any of the 5 areas permitted.
