Hi All,

Activesync on my Nokia E63 has been working well for several months and stopped yesterday. I'm running SBS2008 and Exchange 2007. When I manually request a synchronization it connects to Server then gives the "Server Error" msg. I upgraded my GoDaddy cert to a UCC and email on my client box is working fine. I've searched the forum for activesync issues but nothing comes up regarding this.

Can anyone steer me where to look for prob?

Thanks, Scott

Hi Neill:

Thanks for the suggestion. I've used the test exchange connectivity tool and everything fails. I have Outlook anywhere and Outlook web access working remotely no prob but my ActiveSync is down. Still have no clue what is causing it.

Any thoughts apprecited.

Thanks, Scott

If any kind soul can point me in the right direction, as I have no clue where to look next. My activesync just went down and no event preceeded it, to cause it, to my knowledge. One site suggested my authentication may have gotten corrupted and to delete my virtual directory and create a new one. I followed the directions carefully using EMS, and it won't create the new directory. I did use the "Get-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory" command to get the correct name first, and after removing it carefully used the New command to install a new one but it failed. It also stopped my DSF Name Service and had to restart that.

When I force a sync with my smartphone it reacts the same way as it did before I removed the virtual directory so I'm thinking this was the prob.

Can anyone steer me to a specific procedure to recreate the virtual directory? I need a step by step as I am not an IT professional as most of you are, but a new, learning admin.

Thanks, Scott

Continuing to work on this and managed to re-create the activesync virtual directory but mobile still not syncing. Any suggestions as to trouble shooting much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Did the Nokia stop working immediately after this?

What's the full error message?

I see you've tried ExRCA and noted that Outlook and OWA work fine.

Do you have another smartphone (Windows Mobile, iPhone, etc.) that you could test ActiveSync with?

Hi M. LePivert:

Thanks for your suggestions. I only work on the network at night or over coffee before I go to work in the morning as the Network is mine and I'm a newbie admin trying to learn as I go. I cannot remember any significant event occurring when the activesync went down. I've been continuing to explore the cause and I've been reviewing the log files. I think there are several issues on the Server but the one right now that seems to have a remote connection to the activesync not working might be the WSUS vs. Sharepoint 3.0 port 80 conflict. I just hit upon that last night and I'll be continuing my investigation. For sure both have port 80 and 443 listed and the advice of the BPA for Exchange is to remove port 80 from WSUS or Default Web Site, can't remember which. Did I mention that updates don't seem to be working correctly?

I'm researching and taking notes and I think when I hit a wall as to how to resolve a particular error that I think might be causing it, I'll be posting on this thread again, perhaps in the next 24-48 hrs.

Thanks for responding,

Scott

I've managed to discover that Selfupdate for client computers has not been working for some time, and there is some type of conflict between WSUS and DWS with ports used and ssl. I'm not sure if this is related as Sharepoint is somehow involved and I'm guessing Sharepoint provides access to the database for ActiveSync?

Any direction anyone can give me on troubleshooting activesync would be appreciated. I tried the "testexchangeconnectivity" site but nothing works or connects on that although I have Outlook Anywhere and RWW working fine from a remote workstation

I realize what I'm trying to fix is probably so basic that 99% of IT professionals could solve this while playing Solitaire but any help you can give is appreciated.

Thanks,

Scott

Activesync still not working. Mobile device logs on and connects to Exchange, and no longer gives msg "server error" it just connects but never downloads any email/calendar/tasks. No error message, just goes to idle after awhile.

Anyone run across this before?

Scott
