I've installed ActiveSync 4.5. A few days later, I found rapimgr.exe takes up 99% of CPU. I had to kill it using task manager. It has been this way ever since.

I've uninstalled and re-installed, and tried a few things found by Google. Nothing helped.

Is there any fix for this problem? Thanks!

I saw this quote on Google, "I have finally resolved my ActiveSync problems, and determined that the problem was in the Connection settings, USB to PC, that I needed to uncheck the advanced network features box.

If I didn't, rapimgr.exe hit 100% CPU and stayed there after the first connection to my phone".

I am not sure what the poster was referring to. I don't have this "advanced network features box" in my File -> Connection Settings dialog:

rapimgr.exe only runs away at the start up. Once I killed it and connect the device, it will be started again and runs just fine.

Can you change the way it starts either in Services (if it is in there, perhaps by changing it from Automatic to Manual) or through MsConfig?

There after manual start the program as required.

Searched registry and did not find an entry for rapimgr.exe to start it. Seems that I am stuck

Hard to see how something can run at Startup and also be invisible, unless the thing was a nasty piece of malware, which I don't believe it is.

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
