My activesync (3.7.1 upgraded to 3.8-same problem) has started playing up - although it may be my Outlook 2002 on WinXPHome. I can sync everything except notes, which throws a message "Synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to log onto the network..." The machine is syncing to a desktop (no network access needed). There are plenty of references to this problem on the net but the solutions that I can find don't work. They include replacing mapi32.dll, and various others.

I have recently moved my default folder and file from the way it was set up, to another directory on the same machine. I think that this is where the problem started. As far as I can tell all the relevant data is stored in a file called outlook.pst and I am stumped as to why everything else should sync ok but not the notes element.

Has anyone encountered/overcome/got any suggestions?

Many thanks,

I don't know whether this will help but it's worth a shot. ActiveSync's logs are stored in your 'Temp' directory which on my machine - running Windows 2000 - is in 'Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Temp'. There seem to be a lot of log files related to it but some of the ones I've found are 'outstore.log', 'WCESCOMM.LOG', 'WcesView.log' and 'wcesmgr.log'.

There may be something in one of those that helps you track down the problem.

If that fails you could try falling back on 'old faithful': disconnect your device, delete (or move) all the partnerships from 'Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync' and connect your device again. I've had to do that a couple of times a year so far when weird things start happening for no reason.
