activesync issues with single exchange 2003 server and iphone

trying to setup a user so he can use his iphone with activesync to check his company mail.

we have a single exchange 2003 server.

I have used the microsoft exchange server remote connectivity analyzer to test exchange activesync, and it is succesful with the user account.

when I try connecting with the the iphone it fails, and I get event id 3005 on my exchange server, which shows:

Unexpected Exchange mailbox Server error: Server: HTTP status code: [409]. Verify that the Exchange mailbox Server is working correctly.

where should I go next?

found the issue on another website:

1. Open IIS Manager

2. Navigate to Websites -> right click on "Default web site" and click on properties.

3. On the web site tab click on advanced

4. Under "Multiple identities for this website" click on the default entry and click on edit

5. I made the following changes - IP address: (All Unssigned), TCP port:80, Host Header Value: "Blank"

6. click ok and restart IIS Admin Service
