Active users are getting logged out

We use 5.0.5 and recently users have been complaining that they will be typing along and then getlogged out for no explainable reason. Suddenly they find themselves looking at a login prompt. It's totally intermittant with no apparent regularity. It happens on the console too. We are not and have never used the idleout option. I have not made any changes to the OS at all.

Any suggestions?

I've seen this happen if the network connection drops, but that wouldn't apply to the console. Check your running crons, because there may be something running that serches for and kills stray processes, that is inadvertently killing your active sessions.

Do you have all of the patches installed? Are you close to exceeding your user license quota? Does the problem happen with the root user?
